Joseph Campbell on the New Myth

This is definitely dated material from the now famous and seminal Bill Moyers interview with Joseph Campbell, but this clip is well worth watching as it so hones in on the kernel of meaning for the times that we live in that I felt it worth posting. Joseph really hits the nail on the head with identifying the planet and it’s story as the only myth worthy of guiding us through this culminating moment in history, and I certainly feel a deep resonance with that perspective. Makes me think of the Einstein quote about the mindset that created our problems is not capable of fixing them. This is a great plea for utilizing our ability to tell the earth’s story as a healing and empowerment tool. The Great Turning Film

I have long been a tremendous and grateful appreciator of everything Joanna Macy, and so it was a wondrous surprise to recently find out that an acquaintance of mine is co-directing a documentary about Joanna and her profound and empowering perspectives on the times we live in. Called The Great Turning, this documentary promises to be an excellent introduction to the work of Joanna Macy and her colleagues as our planetary culture negotiates the turn from peak oil to ??? Hopefully a mutually enhancing relationship with the earth and each other as Thomas Berry would say.

I am so in love with Brian Swimme, and am completely unashamed to say so. Every time the man opens his mouth something wondrous emerges to expand on our cosmological appreciation, and this interview from meaning of life .tv is no exception. If you follow this link you will get a very short segment from an hour + long interview by Robert Wright, and you can watch the whole interview below if you have the time. But I selected the “cosmic evolution” clip within the whole program because it contains one of the fundamental perspectives learned from a telling of the great story, that we are literally made of stardust. Every perspective I have encountered that relates this evolutionary fact is glorious, and this is no exception. And Brian once again tries to clarify his meaning on the wedding of science and spirituality that so many people try to pigeon hole him into. Enjoy!
