The folks from the Pachamama Alliance are offering these low cost symposiums to help further along the transition from exploitative culture to a nourishing and truly sustainable one. This is a wondrously beautiful example of tell a different story, bring about a different reality. And I adore the fact that they are ensuring it is accessible to everyone. If you can find one anywhere near you, I would whole heartedly recommend attending. Their stated goal is bringing forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on Planet Earth, and I can’t think of anything more worthwhile.

At it’s heart are four questions ~ Where are we? How did we get here? What’s possible for the future? And Where do we go from here? Affirming our connectedness throughout, and stimulating active community are just some of the results from this event.

Joseph Campbell on the New Myth

This is definitely dated material from the now famous and seminal Bill Moyers interview with Joseph Campbell, but this clip is well worth watching as it so hones in on the kernel of meaning for the times that we live in that I felt it worth posting. Joseph really hits the nail on the head with identifying the planet and it’s story as the only myth worthy of guiding us through this culminating moment in history, and I certainly feel a deep resonance with that perspective. Makes me think of the Einstein quote about the mindset that created our problems is not capable of fixing them. This is a great plea for utilizing our ability to tell the earth’s story as a healing and empowerment tool. The video segment is found on the Global Mindshift website, and I hope you are as stimulated by it as I have been.

World Wide Telescope Launched!

A couple of days ago Microsoft Research finally released their long anticipated World Wide Telescope, which should really be entitled “The Universe Wide Telescope”.

I was excited about the idea of this, and how the concept lent itself to facilitating certain facets of Universe Story telling in a wonderfully graphic way. But the reality of what Microsoft Research labs has done… is absolutely mind boggling. This is quite simply one of the most amazing accomplishments of our species to date. After all, a century ago we weren’t even aware that there were other galaxies than our own, and now look at the scope of knowledge that is commonly available to grade school children. To have facilitated this project, and then to release it free as an educational / inspirational tool is generous to say the least. And it is easily the first time I have been sincerely excited about owning a PC. Sorry Mac folks (of which I am first and foremost), but this seems like it is going to remain squarely in the PC realm. If you don’t own a PC, I would counsel getting friendly with someone who does, or convince your local library to install World Wide Telescope as a community service.

In a nutshell, this endeavor is highly recommended. The requirements for your PC are pretty high, but extremely worth while. And when you’ve realized that countless hours have gone missing in your life, I know nothing…
