That’s so… Jurassic

Posted by Aether under: Community News .

I’m thinking that I’d like to propose a new term to be used when describing something or someone that is outdated, destructive, ignorant, or just plain ol’ mean.  I’ve just witnessed someone yelling at their child.  That is so… Jurassic.  As in, doomed (or should be doomed) for extinction.  I’m reading the news and I see a story about a midnight deal to dam the last free flowing river in Labrador.  That is definitely Jurassic.  I contemplate that there are governments more than willing to spend trillions of dollars to destroy a country (or two or three or four…) when at home there’s never enough money for universal cradle to grave health care for it’s own citizens.  Absolutely Jurassic.

I know that the more accurate term would be Cretaceous, or flat out Mesozoic, but I am going to stick with Jurassic for one simple reason ~ the movie.  Jurassic Park made the word commonplace, and powerfully associated with dinosaurs, our most common cultural reference to something that became extinct.

So in the spirit of evolutionary honesty, anytime you see, hear, read, or interact with someone or something that is hindering our collective growth towards mutually enhancing relationship in any regard, gently remind them or yourself that they’re being Jurassic.
