The World Wide Telescope

Posted by Aether under: Community News .

I spent countless hours exploring many of the mandatory stops on a planetary tour and some of the more obscure ones when Google Earth was first released, and continue to be a big fan of it’s bird eye perspective on our lovely garden home. Not to be outdone, Microsoft has recently announced The WorldWide Telescope, which by every indication promises to be monumentally mind boggling in every regard. Weaving together high resolution imagery from telescopes the world over, WWTelescope will afford us the ability to travel wherever in the cosmos our dreams may take us without leaving the comfort of home.

Of particular interest to us in the universe story-telling community are the meaningful implications of what this portal will help facilitate in our ever expanding digestion of what the story is all about, and the means to effectively illustrate it. Such portents of this tools’ use are apparently aligned with the creative team’s vision, and in this short introductory film I was very excited to hear about it.

A toast! A toast is in order! Huzzah for the creative visionary geniuses who are giving this stupendous gift to the world. We are indeed the richer for it, and I for one am eminently thankful. As the universe slowly becoming aware of itself through the creative genetic matrix that is humanity, we are now entering into a realm of vision and ability that at long last can truly look upon ourselves, and hopefully smile.

Peace.

Teaching children about the natural world should be treated as one of the most important events in their lives. Children need a story that will bring personal meaning together with the grandeur and meaning of the universe. ~ Thomas Berry
